Harvest cellar hand
Laughing Stock Vineyards is a boutique, 6,000 case winery located on the Naramata Bench in the Okanagan Valley. We are dedicated to producing handcrafted super premium wines of quality and distinctiveness. We produce primarily red wines and purposely keep our product line very tight. We currently grow 70% of our own fruit with the balance from a small group of grape growers on long-term contracts.
We are looking to fill a full-time seasonal harvest cellar hand position on our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with top quality estate fruit and crafted wines that are truly expressive of our vineyards and the world-class Okanagan Valley.
The cellar hand will be an integral member of our production staff, reporting directly to the Winemaker and will participate in all aspects of the winemaking process. The Winemaker is the owner/operator and has been the Winemaker from inception allowing for the continuity of process and procedures that have proven repeatable and highly successful.
Qualifications:
The preferred candidates should have some or all of the following:
- Some post-secondary education in winemaking from an accredited and recognized academic institution
- A range of proven skills in winery/harvest positions developed over 2+ years of harvest experience
- An understanding of winemaking equipment such as crusher/de-stemmers, pumps, presses, forklifts and some farm equipment, etc
- Experience in working with chemicals and some lab equipment to assist the Assistant Winemaker or the Winemaker
- Prefer candidate to have his or her driver’s licence as well be forklift certified
In addition, the following skills will be a definite asset:
We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, enthusiastic and reliable with a good work ethic. He/she should have some vintage experience and if international experience that would be a bonus. This is a seasonal hire from late August to early November.
Other requirements include:
- Able to work 6 to 7 days per week over the vintage period
- Hard working and positive attitude
- Ability to work independently
- Have own accommodation arrangements
- All Visa documents already in place for International applicants
